A Sense of Wonder

For several years now, my Slashdot (no, honest, I don't read slashdot!) signature has been:

The more I learn about the Internet, the more amazed I am that it works at all.

It's important to maintain that sense of wonder. The net is a pretty amazing thing, held together by a bunch of people who are probably massively unappreciated in their attention to the plumbing.

I've worked inside a couple of telecom companies, and I'm amazed every time a cell ohone call goes through!

I hiot your article on etags, which was extremely helpful, and I wanted to say thanks.

What really amazes me is when I go looking for a way to do something, and find it is already built into to the internet protocols, which in turn are built on top of the theoretical construct of someone typing on a teletype.
