Quote of the Day

Around the Atlassian lunch-room table, during a discussion of the relative merits of operating systems, it was noted that Linux-use around the office seemed to correlate quite strongly with having a beard -- something that was certainly true of the small sample present at the time -- and that traditionally, the length of one's beard is an indicator of Unix expertise.

"You know why that is?", Mike asked. "The rest of us actually have time to shave."

Yes, point taken, but how about those developers who don't know how to use scp, or have to download third party app.s because they don't know how to check if a port is open?

The windows mentality has its casualties. Not everyone can afford Macs. It's quite easy not to learn how to command UNIX when using OS X, too.

Linux definitely has its place. It can just be a painful place to become lost in sometimes.

Well, that was always your version of it, Charles. :)

That's just a reiteration of your original point about Linux, that it's not as simple to use as Windows or OS X.

Linux can be a PITA, certainly, it can also teach you a lot about UNIX, especially if you don't have OS X handy.
