The Head First Girl's Double Life
This isn’t new, by any means, it was discovered in Joe Grossberg’s blog, and brought to my attention by Alan, last year. Neither of them posted the pictures though, so this is for posterity.
Exhibit A: the “Head First Design Patterns” front cover:

Exhibit B: the graphic from Vagisil’s teen centre web-page:

The moral of the story? Even self-assured design-pattern toting geek girls need feminine hygiene products. Oh, and also, it’s probably worth the extra few bucks to pay for exclusive use of that cover photo.
Posted to nerd at August 12, 2005 10:18 AMPretty funny! I have the book, my wife got a kick out of it too.

It is? How? Are you blackmailing someone?
(You may want to change that last word.)
I'm just posting this at http://headrush.typepad.com/creating_passionate_users/ which is the Head First guys' (and girls') blog).
Hmmm, do think she is passionate about feminine hygiene?

If we had, you and the others wouldn't have blogged this...
; )
(While this is the *tamest*, it is not the *only* other place she's appeared, but we're hoping nobody will find the others.)
She is indeed passionate about a lot of things... but don't get her started on the Visitor pattern. She hates it.
Posted by: Kathy Sierra at August 12, 2005 01:16 PM (#link)Nice! As they say, bad press is better than no press :-) And besides, she's just too cute to keep to ourselves.
Posted by: Beth Freeman at August 12, 2005 01:29 PM (#link)You guys are soooo bad. I hear she is passionate about some outdoors touring company as well.
Let's start a contest, a free copy of "Head First - Bring your Brain" to the first person to find every occurrence. Oh, I'm so going to regret that!
Eric
Yoz: Thanks for the correction. I blame the flu virus I've been stuck with for the last week. Yeah, that's it.
Posted by: Charles Miller at August 12, 2005 01:39 PM (#link)azzie was telling me about some university site that bought a graphic that was also being used by some bi/lesbian group.
Posted by: Lonita at August 12, 2005 03:04 PM (#link)I guess you shouldn't use stock photos for a book. You never know what will happen.
Posted by: Annabel Loggins at August 13, 2005 07:52 AM (#link)Aw jeez, Ms. Sierra!
Now you have piqued my curiosity and I am going to obsess about where else this woman has appeared.
Any more hints? ;-)
Posted by: Rick Stabile at August 13, 2005 07:58 AM (#link)Well, http://roomity.com/home.jsp isn't her, but the idea is *mighty* similar :-)
Posted by: David Coldrick at August 13, 2005 03:18 PM (#link)David, close but no cigar.
Liona, find that image and a copy of "Head First - Bring your Brain" is yours...
