how sad is that: I was reading the post in NetNewsWire, but because the "OK" button was in the screengrab, I clicked enter, even though that wasn't what I meant to do... Oh well.
Every time I look at this post, my brain tells me I need to dismiss the alert. I'm strongly considering writing "SAMPLE" across the image so it stops bugging me.
My boss got me with one of those recently. He took a screenshot of a window and put it as the background of a web page... with the drop shadow included. It took me ages to figure out why the whole window wasn't responding to any of my commands.
As for the bad Javascript error messages, I don't think web page designers are responsible for this. This is more the fault of a lazy programmer who couldn't be bothered to pad single digit numbers with a leading zero. The questions is; Do web designers toss and turn at night thinking of the ugliness that some back-end programmer may have foisted on their beautiful design in the form of unnecessary or incomprehensible error messages ?
Javascript error messages are ugly anyway. They have to be dismissed before you can continue entering the data into the web page which requires reaching for the mouse again. (Sometimes you have to choose between two buttons and simply hitting return isn't good enough.) Much better to include the error message in the page itself whether that be put there by your server after submitting the form or added to the page by Javascript without needing to contact the server.
Anyway there's my two cents, which rounded down would be...
