Naming Conflicts

Apple:

CheetahOS X 10.0
PumaOS X 10.1
JaguarOS X 10.2
PantherOS X 10.3

Java:

TigerJDK 1.5
CheetahEclipse Support for JDK1.5

Could one of the above kindly stop with the big cats, before this gets out of hand and we have to start namespacing project codenames?

Addendum: It's amusing to note that Cheetah was, in fact, the slowest version of OS X. I can understand why they didn't start publicising the cat names until Jaguar.

(Memo to self. Need better default stylesheet for tables)

There's always Leopard for the next version of OS X :)

Apple is running out of cat names. If they don't go to OS X 11.x and a new set of names soon, we're going to have "OS X 10.7, Moggie."

And here I was looking forward to "OS X 10.5: Tabby"

Here's a series of names that they could start using: Firebird, Chimera, Phoenix, Bento, Python ... the only problem is that they'd have to change the name every month or two.

Ok who starts next..i have brought the next series...Iris Setter, BullDog, Blood Hound, Labrador.....and Its under LGPL.....

Could get messy with O'Reilly if Apple or Sun go for dog breeds... ;o)

I vote for Ocelot

This problem continues with OS X 10.4 being called Tiger and looks to continue for a while http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/07/20030724025054.shtml
