DALnet dead, film at 11.

December 8, 2002 8:24 PM

From IRCNews (No obvious permalinks! Bad!):

DALnet's nightmare keeps getting worse as the beleaguered network lost the typhoon.dal.net hub and its all-important twisted.dal.net server in one fell swoop.

Ugh. no wonder I haven't been able to connect reliably for days, the biggest client server and the central hub both vanished at the same time.

As an aside, twisted was also a pretty serious vindication of the Linux network stack. For a very long time, Linux wasn't thought of as being stable enough to handle an IRC server. Applicants for networks were basically told to install FreeBSD or go away. twisted proved that wrong by handling at times over 50,000 concurrent clients on a single-processor AMD box, which is pretty damn impressive.
